Arvind Kejriwal is a former civil servant and Indian politician who served as the seventh Chief Minister of Delhi from December 28, 2013 to February 14, 2014 (first term). He leads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He is recognized for his efforts to endorse and put into practice the Right to Information Act at grassroots level & his role in sketching a proposed Jan Lokpal Bill. Currently he is serving as the chief minister of Delhi since 14 February 2015.
Kejriwal is married to Sunita. She was his batch mate from the National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie & the National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur. They have two children.
Arvind Kejriwal joined IRS in the year 1995 after qualifying the Civil Services Exam. In the year 2000, he was approved 2 years paid leave to chase higher education on clause that upon recommencing his work he would not walk out from the Service for at least 3 years. Failure to put up with that condition would necessitate him to pay back the salary given during the leave period. He retorted in 2003 & worked for 18 months before taking un-paid leave for 18 months. In 2006, he walked out from his position as a Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, New Delhi. Indian Government asserted that Kejriwal had desecrated his original agreement by not working for 3 years. Arvind Kejriwal said that 18 months of work & 18 months of unpaid absence amounted to the predetermined 3 year period during which he could not quit and that this was an endeavor to malign him due to his association with Team Anna, a filament of the Indian anti - corruption movement. The quarrel ran for a number of years until, in the year 2011, it was stanched when he paid his way out of the Service.
