Ecuador witnessed extreme violence this week when a prominent gang leader managed to disappear from jail. Ecuador saw extensive gunfire, looting, burning of vehicles, and more. What came as a surprise was the incident when on Tuesday, several gunmen
attacked a TV studio during a live broadcast and created havoc.

The situation of extreme violence led the President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa to declare a state of emergency for a total of 60 days. The president imposed a nationwide curfew. The situation is such that the military is authorized to patrol the streets. Teams of thousands of military personnel and police officers have been stationed for Adolfo Macías, the leader of the gang.

The terrifying situation

Over 11 people lost their lives in the country due to the havoc by Wednesday.
What proved to be another challenge was the situation when workers tried to rush to their homes and thus jammed the streets of Quito and Guayaquil with traffic.

As per the authorities, a second major gang leader had managed to disappear from prison in Ecuador with some other prison inmates.

The TV Station Incident

Gunmen entered and attacked TC Television, situated in Guayaquil at the time of a live news broadcast. The gunmen created havoc at the news station by kicking and hitting staff members.
Additionally, the gunmen compelled the anchors of the news channel to appear in a video demanding the president to not interfere.
Soon the police entered the scene and arrested 13 gunmen. The cops confiscated all the explosives and guns. Fortunately, all the staff people of the news channel were safe.

Adolfo Macías disappearing from the prison

Adolfo Macías is the head of Los Choneros. The gang is considered one of the very first gangs in Ecuador that forged relations with Mexican drug cartels. Macías is also known by the name "Fito".

The man went missing from his prison cell of a prison in Guayaquil. Macías had been serving a sentence of 34 years for crimes like drug trafficking and more. It is not the very first time that the notorious leader of the gang has run away from prison, as a similar incident also took place in the year 2013.
Even when he was behind bars, he ran his enterprise from the prison. It is important to note that it is believed by many that a lot of prisons in the country are actually controlled by gangs.
