    Punjab: Location in India


    Punjab is located in the North - West of Republic of India. Punjab is bordered by Pakistan on the Western side, the Indian states of Jammu & Kashmir on the Northern side, Himachal Pradesh on its North - East and Haryana & Rajasthan on its South. The capital of Punjab is located in Chandigarh. It is a Union Territory & also the capital of Haryana. The term Punjab encompasses 2 words namely "punj meaning five” and “ab meaning water”. Thus, Punjab is referred to as the land of 5 rivers. The population of Punjab was 27,743,338 as per Census 2011.


    Climate of Punjab


    Climate of Punjab is characterized by extreme cold and extreme hot conditions. Yearly temperature in Punjab ranges from 1°C to 46°C, but can reach to 49°C in Summers and 0°C in Winters.

    April to June

    Temperature usually rises as high as 49°C.



    July to September

    Majority of rainfall occurs



    December to February

    Temperature typically falls as low as 5°C.


    The soil characteristics are inclined to a limited degree by the topography, parent rock and vegetation. Variation in soil profile uniqueness is much more distinct because of regional climatic differences.
