World AIDS days is observed on December 1 of every year. This day brings awareness about HIV/AIDS and brings solidarity in the face of pandemic.
On this day, people all over the world come together and fight against HIV and show their support to the people fighting HIV and commemorate those who have died. World AIDS Day was first conceived in August 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter.
World AIDS Days have the theme of "Getting to zero: zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths" between 2011-2015.
World AIDS Day is a great opportunity to get the public talking about HIV and keeping that in mind we need to remember the importance of raising awareness of HIV all year round.
World AIDS Campaign's Global Steering Committee chooses the AIDS day theme every year after consulting the organizations and people involved in treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. From 2005 through 2008, the theme was "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise", for each World AIDS Day.
In the present scenario, various laws and scientific advances have been made to protect people from HIV aids and to understand more about their condition. Despite this, many people are unaware about the facts about how to protect themselves from HIV and the stigma and discrimination still prevails.
