Atomic Hack India 2026: IIT Bombay and Rosatom Launch National Hackathon for Engineering Students
IIT Bombay and Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation have launched Atomic Hack India 2026. It is a national hackathon for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students. The last date to register is October 20, 2026. Check the challenge details, important dates, rewards and how to apply.
Atomic Hack India 2026 is a new national hackathon launched by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in partnership with Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation. The challenge invites undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students to find solutions for real power grid problems that involve nuclear and renewable energy. The last date to register is October 20, 2026. The main goal of the hackathon is to make electricity transmission safer and more reliable for the country. Students will get free software access and expert mentorship throughout the event. Winners can also earn a sponsored research visit to Moscow along with internships and certificates. Here are the complete details about the challenge and its dates and rewards.
Atomic Hack India 2026: Challenge Details and Mentorship
The hackathon asks students to design a protection system for a 220 kV transmission line that connects nuclear and renewable energy sources. The challenge is based on a Zero-Sequence Directional Overcurrent Protection scheme which is also known as ZDOP. This scheme helps detect and identify electrical faults in power lines. Participants will work on a software platform called REPEAT VISION developed by ETC GET which is a subsidiary of Rosatom. The tool allows users to create digital models of physical systems and test how they work under different conditions. Every participant will get free access to the software. Students will also receive introductory training webinars and guidance from Rosatom engineers and IIT Bombay professors. No prior experience with the platform is required to take part.
Atomic Hack India 2026: Stages, Dates and Rewards
The hackathon will be held in two stages. The online qualification round will run from October 20 to October 28, 2026. Up to 25 shortlisted teams will then compete in a 48-hour final at the IIT Bombay campus in Mumbai from December 4 to December 6. Winning teams will get a sponsored research visit to Rosatom’s engineering centres in Moscow along with internships at ETC GET and certificates. The event is organised by JSC ETC GET in partnership with the Rosatom Corporate Academy and IIT Bombay’s Research Hub for Green Energy and Sustainability. India aims to increase its nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047. Reliable grid systems and effective fault detection will therefore become key areas of engineering research. Interested undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students can register for Atomic Hack India 2026 by October 20, 2026.
