IIT Delhi New Programme: The Department of Design at IIT Delhi will introduce a new four-year undergraduate degree programme - BTech in Design from the 2025-26 academic year. Admissions to the new programme will be conducted on the basis of the JEE Advanced marks along with the requirement to pass the UCEED aptitude test.
The institution in its statement has mentioned that the new BTech in Design programme has been created for empathetic and creative minds intent on understanding socio-technical system around them and designing solutions for problems in the system.
About the Programme
According to the details provided on the official website of IIT Delhi, the BTech in Design programme will have a strong focus on product design. The programme aims to prepare the students in a way that they are confident on using the design as a vehicle to address problems in industry and society.
Prof. Jyoti Kumar, HoD, Department of Design stated that the expectation is that after graduation students will take up leadership positions in industry, academia, government, consulting and entrepreneurship. Professor Kumar also added that the programme offers enough choices and freedom to students to exercise diverse career paths.
Professor Kumar mentioned that as the proposed curriculum is geared to prepare students for leadership positions it is broad-based and analogous to existing programmes at IIT Delhi. The institute aims to create new leaders in design who can see the big picture as generalists and can go into details as a design speciality.
