JEE Main 2020: As per the latest announcement, CSAB has decided to revise and relax the eligibility and qualifying criteria for admission to NITs, IIITs & CFTIs today. The announcement has been confirmed by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, who tweeted and confirmed that the CSAB has decided to consider JEE Main 2020 Rank and Score as the only eligibility criteria for admission. This means that the earlier notified qualifying criteria of scoring a minimum of 75% marks in the Class 12 Examination, has been dropped by CSAB and will not be considered for granting admissions to NITs, IIITs & CFTIs. Any student or candidate, who has a valid passing certificate for Class 12 and a valid JEE Main 2020 score, will be eligible to seek admission to these institutions for academic year 2020-21.
Decision Taken as Special Measure amid COVID-19 Pandemic
The decision to relax the eligibility criteria for admission to NITs, IIITs & CFTIs has been taken as a special measure by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), considering the prevailing circumstances due to COVID-19 pandemic. The rationale behind the decision is that several students from various state boards couldn’t appear for some of the papers for Class 12 Board Exams after the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic in the country. For such students, the idea of having a minimum 75% marks in the Class 12 Board exam seemed to be an unfair requirement. Addressing their concerns, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to drop this as qualifying criteria for admissions as a onetime measure. Now, any student with a valid Class 12 Passing certificate and a JEE Main 2020 qualifying rank or score, will be eligible to seek admission to these institutions.
