JIPMER MBBS Entrance Exam 2019 will see some major changes introduced this time around. According to the JIPMER 2019 MBBS Entrance Exam Prospectus, the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research has introduced some key changes in the examination process, eligibility criteria and reservation quota for the examination. All the details with regards to the change made to the JIPMER 2019 Exam are listed below. Candidates who are planning to appear for the JIPMER 2019 exam are advised to go through these changes in advance and understand their implications on their candidature.
Introduction of EWS Reservation Quota
In line with the recently announced Reservation Quota Policy for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates, the institute has introduced 10% reservation for such candidates. Under this policy, the institute has reserved 13 seats for candidates belonging to low-income groups out of the total 200 seats. Of the total 13 reserved seats, 10 seats will be available at the JIPMER, Puducherry campus while the remaining 3 seats will be available at the Karaikal campus.
The seats reserved under the EWS quota will be offered only to those candidates who do not belong to any other reserved categories like SC, ST and OBC. In order to avail the reservation under EWS quota the annual gross family income of the applicant must be below Rs 8 lakhs. The institute will take into account income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application. The JIPMER Prospectus also notes that candidates who qualify the examination through merit will not be considered for the EWS seats.
Qualifying Marks
Earlier, in order to be eligible to apply for JIPMER MBBS exam, students from General Category had to score aggregate 60% marks in core subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology or biotechnology in the qualifying examination. From this year onwards, the qualifying marks required by the candidates have been lowered to 50% for General and EWS category students. Candidates who belong to reserved categories need to score 40% marks instead of 50% which was the benchmark last year. PwD candidates belonging to General Category will need to score 45% marks.

JIPMER MBBS Entrance Exam 2019 will be held at 120 cities across India. However, a few test cities have been replaced in the states of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In Tamil Nadu, ellore has been replaced by Tiruvannamalai and in West Bengal, Burdwan has been replaced with Bishnupur.
JIPMER 2019 is an undergraduate level medical entrance exam through which students are screened for admission to MBBS programmes offered at JIPMER campuses. The JIPMER 2019 registration process has begun on 6th March 2019 and the last date to apply is 12th April 2019.
