
West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra at the state secretariat has stated that the Standing Committee of West Bengal Cabinet has approved five acres of land in New Town Area for the second campus of IIM-Joka. He also added that the state cabinet has also approved the 14 acres land assigned for a state-of-the-art cricket facility at Dumurjala Sports City for the Cricket Association of Bengal.
The Minister said that the Cabinet has also approved the plan for a private freight terminal to be built on 36.5 acres of land for the Amritsar-New Delhi Dankuno corridor. He also added that it is expected that once the private freight terminal comes up there will be more investors who would come in to build other freight terminals.
According to media reports, the minister also said that the centre has also given its approval for an industrial centre on the freight corridor which will be built on 2,666 acres of land in Raghunathpur. He said that the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited has close to 800 acres of land to build the state-run industrial park and once the freight terminal is operational the land will be utilized for the purpose.
State Minister of Health Chandrima Bhattacharyya also said that a hike in the annual scholarship for the students from classes 5, 6 and 7 from all the government schools, government-aided schools and madrasas has also been announced. The scholarship amount has been increased from Rs. 750 to Rs. 800.
He further added that under the scholarship scheme students used to get Rs. 800 after they are promoted top class 8. But under the new scheme, there will be no difference between the students as the students from class 5 to 8 of the government schools, government-aided schools will get Rs. 800 as part of the scholarship scheme. The Sikshashree Scholarship Scheme is for the Schedule caste and Schedule tribe category students of class 5 to 8 from the government-run and government-aided schools in the state.
