NIRF Rankings 2020 Released: HRD Minister released the NIRF Rankings 2020 today afternoon in an e-release that was webcasted live on his twitter account. Exhibiting its excellence in higher education, IIT Madras, retained its top spot in the overall category to emerge as the best higher education institution in the country. It was closely followed by IISc Bengaluru, which secured the 2nd Spot this year. In terms of universities, the New Delhi based JNU i.e. Jawaharlal Nehru University emerged as the best university to study at in India.

Along with the NIRF Rankings 2020, today, the ministry also unveiled the Atal Ranking of Institutions for Innovation Achievements or ARIIA rankings. This is the second year since the establishment of AIRA Rankings. As part of NIRF Ranking 2020, HRD Minister announced the names of the top educational institutes in 8 different categories including the most popular ones such as Engineering, MBA and Medicine.
Parameters for NIRF Rankings 2020
Like every year, NIRF Rankings 2020 is an initiative of the HRD Ministry to identify and acknowledge the top educational institutions in the country. Higher education institutions from 8 different categories are assessed and evaluated in order to compile the NIRF Rankings 2020. Institutes are evaluated on the basis of five key parameters i.e.
- Teaching learning & resources
- Research and professional practice
- Graduation outcome
- Outreach & inclusivity
NIRF Rankings 2020 Delayed due to COVID-19 crisis
Last year, NIRF Rankings 2019 were released on 8th April 2020. This year, the release of rankings have been delayed due to the on-going Coronavirus pandemic and the following lockdown announced by the government. However, with all the preparations done, HRD Ministry is all set to release the NIRF Rankings 2020 tomorrow at 12 PM. In 2019, IIT Madras secured the top spot among all the educational institutions in the NIRF Rankings along with securing the apex position in Engineering category. All major IITs made it to the list of top 10 institutes in NIRF Rankings 2019. The only non-IIT institutions in top 10 list were IISc Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
