Noida honours Kargil War Hero: Noida Authority has honoured Kargil War Hero Lt Vijyant Thapar Vir Chakra by naming an important Road Crossing or Intersection between Sector 51-52/71-72 after him. Lt Vijyant Thapar led his unit in the historic Battle of Tololing in June, registering the first victory for the Indian Army in the Kargil War.

Noida honours Kargil War Hero: Noida Authority has honoured Kargil War Hero Lt Vijyant Thapar, Vir Chakra, by naming an important Road Crossing or Intersection between Sector 51-52/71-72 after him. Lt Vijyant Thapar led his unit in the historic Battle of Tololing in June 1999, registering the first victory for the Indian Army in the Kargil War. The announcement of dedicating the Road Crossing across Sectors 51-52 and 71-72 was made by the Noida Authority recently, which also coincided with Vijyant Thapar's birthday, which was on 26th December.

Historic Battle of Tololing

Lt Vijyant Thapar was part of the legendry unit of the 2nd battalion the Rajputana Rifles during the Kargil War. At the young age of 22, Lt Thapar, along with his unit, attacked the enemy and was victorious in the Historic Battle of Tololing (Drass) on the night of 12th/13th Jun 1999, against all odds. This victory laid the foundation of the Indian offensive in the Kargil War. It was also the turning point of the war.

Supreme Sacrifice in the Battle of Knoll

After victory in Tololing, the brave soldier and his company were ordered to capture a very difficult and strong enemy position on a treacherous mountain top called Knoll. Lt Thapar led the campaign to capture Knoll on the night of 28th June 1999. Three officers were killed. Lt Vijyant displayed conspicuous gallantry in this attack much above the call of duty and captured Knoll though it cost the young officer his life. The Battle of Knoll is described by war historians as one of the most difficult and bloody battles of the Kargil War.

In his last letter that he penned, right from the battlefield, he wrote "I have no regrets even if God makes me a human again I will join the army and fight for my nation" he also left for us the credo LIVE LIFE KINGSIZE. Lt Vijyant Chowk will keep his memory alive in the hearts of the coming generation of Indians.
