The upper house of the Parliament or the Rajya Sabha has passed two bills to set up the National Forensic Sciences University and the Rashtriya Raksha University on Tuesday by voice vote. The lower house or the Lok Sabha has already cleared the bills for the same.
The National Forensic Sciences University Bill seeks to upgrade the existing the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University and establish a National Forensic Sciences University. The university proposed is meant to facilitate and promote studies and research, and help achieve excellence in the field of forensic science in concurrence with Applied Behavioural Science Studies, Law, Criminology and other allied areas.
G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home who is responsible for both the bills in the Upper House, said a proper forensic investigation plays a crucial role in a police investigation. He also noted that around 1.5 lakh cases were pending in the country due to lack of forensic professionals. Reddy also pointed out that the establishment of the University will help in filling up over 1.14 lakh posts of forensic experts.
On the other hand, the Rashtriya Raksha University Bill seeks to establish the Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat. The key objectives of this bill include providing dynamic and high standards of learning and research along with providing a working environment that is dedicated towards advancing of research, education and training in the domain of policing.
