Children from four Schools in Delhi and Folk artists from astern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata will be participating in the cultural programme during the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2021. The number of children and folk artists participating in the parade has been cut down to 400 this year as compared to more than 600 last year keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions.
The Ministry of Defence and the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi have selected 401 students and artists which includes 271 girls and 131 boys from DTEA Senior Secondary Schools Delhi, Mount Abu Public School, Rohini, Vidya Bharti School - Rohini, Government Girls Senior Secondary School - Yamun Vihar and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre Kolkata.
Themes presented at the parade
The theme presented by Mount Abu Public School Delhi and Vidya Bharti School Delhi is ‘Vision for Self Reliant India’ which will have 38 boys and 54 girls. The theme ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ inspired by the Fit India Movement launched by the Prime Minister on National Sports Day on August 29, 2019, will be presented at the parade by 102 students from Government Girls Senior Secondary School Delhi. The Folk Dances of Tamil Nadu will be presented by 127 children from DTEA Senior Secondary School Delhi. The Folk Dance ‘Bajasal; from Kalahandi, Odisha will be presented by a total of 80 folk artists from Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre.
While speaking about being a part of the Republic Day parade the students expressed their happiness and stated that they were overwhelmed with a sense of pride since they have a chance to showcase their talent before the dignitaries at Rajpath.
