Tamil Nadu State Education Minister KA Sengottiyan has announced that the lessons for the school students in the state are to be televised from August 1, 2020.

Tamil Nadu State Education Minister KA Sengottiyan has announced that the lessons for the school students in the state are to be televised from August 1, 2020. The lessons will be telecast on 14 channels. 

The minister while speaking to the media stated that a decision on the syllabus and the re-opening of the schools in the state will be taken by an 18 member expert committee. The education minister also added that approximately 52 lakh students have been provided with laptops free of cost adding that Chief Minister K Palaniswami has inaugurated the televised classes for the students. 

The announcement of the online classes which was made earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic has however caused debates since some of the students to come from financially poor backgrounds and might not have the access to mobiles or smartphones. Considering this possibility, the government has taken up the option of televised classes. 

With the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown situation, state governments have been taking up online classes and using other modes of completing the classes for then students to make sure that they do not miss out on the academic time with the schools being closed. Teachers have been conducting the classes for the students through Google meet, Zoom, and many other online modes to complete the syllabus. With the new academic year, beginning schools have also started the online session for the next academic session.
