Q. A cockroach can survive for weeks even if its head is cut off. How is it possible?
Ans. Cockroaches are not dependent on their mouth or head to breathe as they breathe through little holes in each of their body segments. Thus they are not dependent on the mouth or head to breathe. Also, cockroaches do not have blood pressure the way mammals do, so cutting off the head does not lead to uncontrolled bleeding in them. They also need much less food. A single meal is enough to last them a whole month. Eventually they die of thirst because without mouth they are unable to intake water.
