With the ‘D' day for students of class 10, CBSE knocking, all the hard work, the tuitions , the self study will get down to a one stop answer- The Results. But sometimes it is said, that the journey is more important than the destination itself. Jagran Josh takes a sneak peek into the status of the results today and the highly debatable - grading system.

The CBSE class 10 results would be out by noon 4 pm , 24 May 2012. Students could log into the official site or even get their results on their email id's. Since long, CBSE was in a speculative mode to implement the grading system in CBSE affiliated schools. Even though every concept has a flip story, this one actually came in as a breather for students.

With the board examinations being made optional from the academic year 2010-11 , a new system of evaluation, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) got introduced. This system is completely based on grades.

At present, the students of classes 9 and 10 are evaluated on a 9-point grading system. Each grade given on the basis of both formative and summative assessments. The grades range between an A1 i.e. 91-100 to E2 i.e. 00-20. Also, the result of candidates is now declared in two different categories:

  • Eligible for Qualifying Certificate (QUAL)
  • Eligible for Improvement of Performance (EIOP)

The meaty part is, even if the candidate fails in all the five subjects, he will now have five chances to nail the horse back, meaning, the student can now re appear for his exams five times in a row, without wasting a year.

But the existentialist question is, is the grading system a boon or a bane? Long impending debates have happened for over the period of two years and different people have their different versions. Students, obviously are a lot stress free now, and this is evident as the number of suicides before examinations have drastically lowered. Students can now sit for the re-exams and not bear the 'albatross' hanging on their neck for the rest of the year.

But, what do the teachers say about it? With some of them supporting the decision , there is a percentage which thinks that the grading system could actually play a spoil sport in a child's growth. They feel that the grading policy could lower the standard of performance for students.

Finally, the bottom line is, no matter what people may feel , board results this year is going to be a lot different. The stress levels would definitely linger on the down wards not only for the students, but also for their families.
