Huge numbers of discrepancies from all over India are reported in CBSE Class 12th result 2017 after students applied for marks verification. Students have been already complaining of extremely low marks in some subjects, which were then rectified by a very larger margin, after verification.

CBSE Marks Verification

Time of India (TOI) reported that a student Sonali from Delhi scored 99 in economics, 95 in accountancy, 96 in business studies and only 68 Marks in Maths in her CBSE 12th board exam result 2017. She applied for verification and her score went up from 42marks to 90 marks. Similarly, another student from Delhi when applied for verification, her score went up from 68 marks to 95 marks.

TOI also reported that a student from Mumbai scored above 80 marks in all subjects except for Mathematics, in which he scored only 50. After verification of marks, his score went up to 90.
Another student, failed in economics with 9 marks only, after verification ended up with 45 marks.

News 18 reported that, Ex-CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly told the News18 that  the Board could have saved itself the embarrassment if the “traditional or old system was followed”. “We have our old and traditional system called Outlier system to keep such embarrassment at bay,"

According to Ganguly, the Outlier system, which had been in use for 20 years, if a student had scored high marks in four or 5 subjects but considerably less in 1 or 2 others, it meant there was something extraordinarily wrong, thus alerting those concerned. Similarly, if a student had low marks in four or five subjects but high marks in the remaining ones, it means those copies needed to be checked again.

CBSE Class 12 Board Exam Result 2017: No Re-evaluation will be entertained

This year, CBSE has scrapped the marks re-evaluation process. The board only allows verification. However, re-evaluation is possible only after a court order.
