Both SSC and SBI PO provide various jobs to aspirants for different posts. State Bank of India (SBI) individually conducts exam for probationary officers to provide recruitment to lots of bank aspirants whereas Staff Selection Commission (SSC) offers one of the most popular jobs under SSC CGL is Income Tax Inspector, a Group – C interview post on the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) which works for the collection of direct taxes in our country.

Job Profile / Roles and Responsibilities


  1. Handling customer services: POs will be asked to look into the concerns of the customers who come for opening of the new accounts, deposits, loans, services  of ATM, online banking, cheque books, credit cards and etc.
  2. Promoting Business: POs have the responsibility of promoting various banking products like Recurring Deposits, Fixed Deposits, Insurance policies, Funds, Credit Cards, Loans, etc.  
  3. Cash Management: PO has to perform cash related activities like cash disbursal & cash collection from cashiers.
  4. Clearances of Payment:  Officer needs to authorize some payments by way of cheque, DD, NEFT/ RTGS beyond a certain amount.
  5. Report Maintenance:  Officers would be assigned to generate reports that may include the deposits, withdrawals, ledger balances, etc.
  6. Communication on a daily basis: Responsibility for maintaining a track of new developments to improve their product knowledge and send official replies to other departments.

This job includes both desk and field activities. In the Income Tax Department, there are 2 separate sections for your post: Assessment Section and Non-Assessment Section.

Assessment Section

  1. Handles all the desk job details
  2. Handling Refund Claims
  3. TDS related queries

Non-Assessment Section

  1. Field work.
  2. Part of the rapid response team, which conducts raids.
  3. Desk work will be limited to gathering information and proper evidence against possible defaulters.

The revised /initial starting basic pay is near about Rs.41877.

Large number of openings in all grades promotions is faster in SBI.

You can get a stable career growth after placing in Income Tax Department.

There are promotions in every 3-4 years and a SBI Probationary Officer can reach to a very high level (even Chairman of the bank) in course of his or her career.

One can get first promotion in this job after completing of eight year of service after clearing departmental exam.


In SBI, officers are being sent for foreign postings almost every year. SBI now have 194 foreign offices/branches and there are lot of openings for foreign postings every year.
