The Delhi government on Tuesday announced an advisory for nursery admissions, purportedly to keep the private schools on a leash. Though state education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely had earlier allowed schools to decide their own admission dates, Tuesday’s announcement was in response to growing apprehension among parents against this autonomy.
The common calendar, which was uploaded on the education department’s official website, has pruned the period for sale of admission forms from one month to 15 days. Forms will be sold between January 1 and January 15.Schools are expected to bring out the first list on February 1.This calendar, however, is an advisory and schools are allowed to deviate from the announced dates as long as they inform the directorate of education by December 31 and give valid reasons.
Following the government’s advice, Mount Carmel School became the first school to announce its admission criteria and dates on its website on Tuesday. The school will sell its forms from January 3 to January 10.
