The first cut off list in Delhi University is out. The list was declared today, 26 June 2012. With students hard pressed on marks and luck, the first cut off list is far from being a breather. Most colleges have raised their cut off banner by 0.5% to 4% in popular courses.
Like always, BCom (Hons) and Economic (Hons) stood at the peak points with the highest cut off . Hindu College came up with a near to flawless 99.25% for BCom (hons)where as SRCC stood at an interestingly low scale i.e. 96.5%-98.5%.After receiving criticism last year for bringing in a whopping 100% as their cut for BCom, SRCC seems to be on a path of low key this season. Hansraj College stood straight at 96.25%-98.25%, bringing in a hike of 0.25% in comparison to the last year.
For the ‘literati crème course’ English Honors, the most sought after colleges such as, Miranda House, Hindu and Kirorimal stuck their CATE scores between the range of 80%-82.4%. For the colleges those do not resort to the CATE exam for English Honors, the cut off’s were on the higher hemisphere. Gargi College set the cut off between 89%-93%, whereas Ramjas College stood at a 89.5%-95.5%.
Gone are the days, when courses in Science stream saw a lull in the cut off, this year saw a marginal rise in courses such as Microbiology, Zoology and Physics. At Hansraj and KMC, Zoology hons stood at 90% and 88% respectively.
Interestingly, the cut off’s for the OBC category has gone up by 2-3% in commerce and science courses. D.U admissions opened on 4 June 2012 and ended on 18 June 2012. A majestic number of 1.46 lakh students applied to the university this year, 2012.
With the cut off’s touching sky rise, it is a point of concern, whether higher education in good colleges of Delhi University would only remain an average child’s ‘distant dream’. The second cut off list will be notified on 29 June 2012.
