Think about top MBA colleges in India or more specifically top MBA colleges in Delhi; the name of Faculty of Management Science, Delhi University (FMS, DU) will surely crop up among the top B-schools of India. Being such an important B-school on the radar of MBA aspirants, the institute has decided to modify the admission criteria for MBA programmes. The move has come across as quite a surprise for MBA aspirants, as since last three years FMS Delhi has maintained the same admission criteria for selection of top talent for management courses at the Delhi campus.

Talking about the admission procedure and changes in the MBA admission criteria for 2018,  the institute announced ““From the shortlisted candidates, admission to MBA programme shall be based on Extempore Speech, Group Discussion, Personal Interview, Class X & Class XII marks and CAT 2017 scores as provided by CAT centre.” For the benefits of MBA aspirants who are planning to join FMS Delhi for the MBA programme, we have listed down all the key changes to the admission process and criteria below.

CAT Weight Reduced

The biggest change in the FMS admission criteria this year is that the institute has slashed the overall weight attached to CAT 2017 MBA entrance exam. Until last year, the CAT score use to amount to 85% weight in final selection round at FMS Delhi. However, this year the institute has slashed the same by 25%, taking the final weight of CAT score in the admission process to only 60%. The changes comes in response to the modification in the CAT score format, which now also takes into account academic profile and other similar factors. Candidates must keep in mind that, FMS only considers CAT 2017 score for admission to their MBA programmes.

GD Round makes a comeback

The biggest surprise when it comes to changes in the FMS Admission process this year is the reintroduction of GD or Group Discussion round. The GD round which was set aside by FMS in 2014 will make a comeback this year. In addition to this, the GD round would also carry significant weight of 10% in the overall criteria in the final selection.

Personal Interview weight hiked

Personal interview was always an essential part of the screening process to select the candidates who make it through to the gates of the institute. However, this year the overall weight attached to PI round has been hiked by 5% and will account for total 15% weight in the final selection score. The PI round is one of the most important rounds during the selection process of FMS Delhi which is clearly denoted by the fact that it has the second highest weightage after CAT score in the selection matrix.

Details about Personal Interview Round

As per the general practice, the PI round for MBA admission to FMS is conducted in the month of March/April. FMS conducts the PI round only in Delhi and candidates are required to reach the venue of PI on their own in accordance to the assigned date and session. Generally speaking, the Personal Interview round for FMS Admission process lasts for around 7 to 30 minutes depending upon the ability of the candidate. All candidates seeking admission to FMS Delhi would be required to produce their original certificates and mark sheets at the time of the interview.

Academic Profile to weigh 10%

In line with the selection process of other top MBA colleges in India, FMS Delhi has also accorded 10% weight to the academic profile of the candidates. This means that your marks / percentage / CGPA in class 10 and class 12 will draw 5% score each in the selection criteria of the institute.

Extempore Speech to weigh 5%

One unique selection factor in the selection process of FMS Delhi is the Extempore Speech. The B-school has attached 5% weight to the extempore speech that will be delivered by the candidate during the personal interview round of the selection process. For the extempore speech section, the candidate would be provided any random topic and given around 10-15 seconds to prepare after which they will have to deliver a 2 -3 minute speech on the topic. This round is held to test the speaking skills, logical thought process and coherent speech on the relevant topic.
