Popularly known as FMS, Faculty of Management Studies is a part of Delhi University and is known as first business school in India offering Full Time MBA program. The business school was established in 1954 and sprouts professional managers through conceptual knowledge and behavioural skills. The candidates are supposed to apply online through FMS website around the month of September and October.
Eligibility criteria
For appearing in different programs of FMS, an aspirant should fulfil the below mentioned criteria:
- MBA (fulltime): The candidate should have pursued three year bachelor’s degree program after 12 years of formal schooling. The minimum requisite in every discipline is 50% marks in arts, commerce or social science; sciences 55%; mathematics or statistics 60%; medicine, engineering or technology 60%.
- MBA (part time): The candidate should have pursued three year bachelor’s degree program after 12 years of formal schooling along with three years work experience, as an executive or administrator in a commercial, industrial or government establishment after graduation. Moreover the candidate is supposed to be sponsored by his/her present employer.
- MBA (health care administration) (part time): The candidate should have pursued three year bachelor’s degree program in medicine after 12 years of formal schooling. The other criteria are the same as part time MBA.
- Foreign students: The foreign nationals are supposed to apply through the office of Deputy Dean, Foreign students, University of Delhi. A GMAT score of minimum 650 is required for foreign nationals with Indian degree (but not currently staying in India) and foreign nationals with foreign degrees are required to submit GMAT and TOEFL scores.
About the test
The FMS test is a two-hour test comprising four sections and has 175 questions to be attempted by the candidate. While the right answer secures four marks for the candidate, every wrong answer results in loss of a mark.
The evaluation process
- Quantitative ability: This section judges candidate on percentages, profit and loss, geometry, coordinate geometry and graphs, linear equations, time, speed and distance questions, basic calculus and basic statistics, algebra, permutations and combinations, data interpretation and logical reasoning.
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability: The section consists of questions on reasoning, syllogisms, alpha-numeric reasoning, visual reasoning, four DI sets and the rest being simple reasoning based questions.
- Verbal ability: This section of FMS test is the most unpredictable section of the paper and hence should be completed within 10- 15 minutes. It consists of synonyms, antonyms, verbal general knowledge (origins of words, forms of art, gender based, etc.), words/proverbs/metaphors related questions/syllogisms, sentence correction and fill in the blanks.
- English comprehension: This section consists of four passages with a good mix of factual and inferential questions.
The final step
Once a candidate has attained the desired percentile, he needs to partcipate in group discussions and personal interviews that are held in March/ April. FMS shortlists the candidates in the ratio of 1: 7 i.e, if one student is to be selected, 7 candidates will have to go through tough competition to be the one selected.
