Question: I am in second year BSc. I have been selected in the navy, but I want to become IAS officer. How should I prepare for it? Please advice.

Answer: First and foremost, be clear about your career objectives; thereafter properly evaluate your talent. Since you have already been selected in navy, preparing for IAS will be a complete risk. Decide for yourself if your finanacial or family conditions can allow you to take such risk? Do reality check if becoming IAS is merely your wish or your family members, or you possess the will and determination to clear this toughest of examinations. If you are determined to enter in this service, pay attention to your studies now and try to build an alternate career. Only then should you think about preparing for IAS exams. If you want to prepare for IAS exam, you will have to crack the exam in the following order – Preliminary (Objective choice) optional papers, general studies; Mains (Subjective type) Optional papers, General Studies, Essay writing, English and then final Interview.
