Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a new Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Urban Planning and Development from new 2014 admission season. This programme will offered as distance learning via various IGNOU's regional centers. Initially, the course, PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development will be in English, but later, it may be taught in Hindi medium, as well.
The selected candidate for the programme will be provided with the study material and periodical counselling sessions will also be conducted according to Nehal M Farooquee, director of School of Extension and Development Studies, IGNOU.
Farooquee told that the programme aims at providing an opportunity to course-takers to expand their knowledge and understanding related to urban planning and development. Urban development professionals may also get enhanced in their skills of urban planning and development in formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of urban development projects and programmes.
This interdisciplinary programme will have maximum 32 credits to score, generally been divided into 5 major areas as follows: Introduction to urban development, issues and challenges in urban planning and development, dynamics of urban planning and development, monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes; and development: issues and perspectives.
The career prospects offered by the programmes to its successful graduates are opportunity to serve various government and non-governmental organisations which deals with urban planning and development. The graduate can also serve as in-service personnel in government and nongovernmental organisations or in private or corporate organisations with task of handling urban development projects and programmes.
The programme is of Minimum one-year and maximum 3 years duration with fee as Rs 2,800.
