Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur held the first convocation event for its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) batch of 2015 on 06 April 2017. The batch strength was of 49 students in 2015. IIM Sambalpur commenced the first batch of PGP on September 23, 2015 in the state of Odisha.
There were 45 students who received degree certificates and Mohamed Kashyap of the first batch was awarded gold medal for his scholastic achievement in the convocation ceremony.
Guest Speak at the Event
Odisha Chief Secretary, A P Padhi was the chief guest at the event. According to Mr. Padhi, Odisha is now home to a host of reputed educational institutions like AIIMS, IIT, NISER & IISER and IIM, Sambalpur is a new addition in the educational firmament of the state. He also said that “India is the most happening destination in the world and also possess vast potential for application of managerial skills for development.”
The occasion was graced by State Bank of India Chairperson, Arundhati Bhattacharya as well. On this prestigious ceremony she said that “The institution is now having a director following which we will try to recruit permanent faculty in the next one year.”
In addition, IIM Sambalpur director Mahadev Jayaswal said, “We will have a permanent campus within two-and-a-half years time. Meanwhile, we are planning to upgrade the existing campus.”
The Gold Medalist, Mohamed Kashyap also spoke on the proud moment and said “The facilities were not very much in place in the beginning but the way it has been managed by the administration, especially the top management and IIM Indore, we are happy that it is growing in a big way.”
About IIM Sambalpur
IIM Sambalpur is among the six new IIMs which the Government of India approved to establish in its Budget 2014-15, presented in the Parliament of India on June 24, 2015.
IT should also be noted that Arundhati Bhattacharya, was appointed as the Chairperson of the Society and Board of Governors of IIM Sambalpur for the next five years, starting from January 15, 2016.
