Foundation stone for IIM Visakhapatnam has been laid by HRD Minister Smriti Irani at Gambheeram village, Andhra Pradesh recently. Admissions to IIM Visakhapatnam will be opened from next academic session.
A bill on IIM would be introduced in Parliament in the Winter session as per the minister. IIM-Bangalore is the mentor institution for the IIM-Visakhapatnam. IIM-Visakhapatnam is the first of the Central premier institutions to be established in the State of Andhra Pradesh under the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. The foundation stones for other central institutions like IIT would also be laid within this academic year, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.
Every new IIM which will be started now will have one mentor IIM which will provide the guidance initially. The classes for IIM-Visakhapatnam will operate out of Andhra University campus till infrastructure is established on over 300 acres of IIM-Visakhapatnam campus coming up in the city.
