The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have collectively decided to discontinue the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) and instead use CAT 2011 as part of student selection process for the Management Program. The new rule will be implemented from the academic year 2012- 13. The move has been seen to ease pressure from candidates who prepare for both CAT and JMET as it will minimise preparation and financial burden.
Admissions to the Post Graduate Management programmes (MBA/ M.Mgmt) in the 6 IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Kharagpur, and Madras) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore will now be based on the scores obtained in CAT exam.
Though an official advertisement is yet to be released by IIT to notify students, IITs have been told about the decision. The IIT Roorkee website already mentions that Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) stands discontinued. The Indian Institute of Management will conduct Common Admission Test 2011 (CAT 2011) during a 20 day testing window from 22 October 2011 to 18 November 2011.
