• Ranjit Sinha, IPS officer of 1974-batch Bihar cadre on 3 December 2012 acquired the office as new CBI director

4 December 2012
• New index called Global Terrorism Index (GTI) revealed on 4 December 2012 that India, Afghanistan and Pakistan were the most terrorism-hit nations in 2011
• The Reserve Bank of India on 4 December 2012 signed a three year Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) with the Bank of Japan for swapping of the local currencies to address short-term liquidity problems

• Union Government of India on 5 December 2012 cleared the decks for transferring the prime India 12.5 acre United Mill land in Mumbai to the Maharashtra government for building a state-of-the-art memorial to B.R. Ambedkar
• India was ranked 94th out of 176 countries in Transparency International’s 2012 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) released on 5 December 2012
• Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were named in the list of top 20 most powerful people in the world by the Forbes Magazine in annual power rankings which were declared on 5 December 2012
• State Bank of India (SBI), on 5 December 2012 announced about its expectation of infusion of approximately 4000 crore Rupees from the government in 2012-2013 fiscal year

• Haryana topped on the chart of states for significantly exceeding the revenue mobilization targets as per the report released in the first week of December by the Planning Commission on State Finances during 11th Five Year Plan

• The Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) on 7 December 2012 asked Karnataka to provide Tamil Nadu with 12 TMC feet of Cauvery water during December 2012
• Apple, on 7 December 2012 launched iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad in India. This comes less than a week after the company rolled out iTunes Store in the country
