After a week-long closure due to heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), educational institutions in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir—Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora—have reopened today. This move follows the resumption of classes in non-border areas of the Kashmir Valley on May 13. However, schools situated in close proximity to the LoC remain closed as a precautionary measure.
Why Were Schools Closed in Border Districts?
The closure of schools in these districts was implemented as a safety measure in response to escalated hostilities between India and Pakistan. During this period, many private institutions transitioned to online classes, while government schools awaited further directives.
Current Status: Schools Reopen with Caution
With the improvement in the security situation, authorities have permitted the reopening of educational institutions in areas deemed safe. Nonetheless, schools located near the LoC continue to be closed, with officials closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Parents and Teachers Welcome the Resumption
The reopening of schools has been met with relief by parents and educators. "It's heartening to see students returning to classrooms. Education must continue, even amidst challenges," said a teacher from Baramulla.
