Out of the 14 departments of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, 10 departnents will accept the admissioto its different courses through the JEE Main from the 2015-2016 session.
The departments which will accept the admission through JEE Main are Aerospace Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications, Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science and Technology, Information Technology, Metallurgy, Mining and Architecture. Admissions to the other courses like five-year integrated BTech and MTech course in all engineering disciplines and the five-year BArch programme in architecture and town planning will be as per the MHRD's norms stipulated for entry into the National Institutes of Technology.
Admission to MTech courses of IIEST will also be done through the integrated counselling at the NITs and other government-funded institutes. From the next session a common entrance examination will be conducted by the IIEST for the admission to postgraduate courses of the remaining four science departments.

The institute is located at Shibpur, in Howrah district of West Bengal. IIEST Shibpur is one of the top engineering institutes in the country and also known as Bengal Engineering and Science University. Institute is classified as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India since 2014. IIEST was established in 1856. In March 2014, it was elevated to national status by amending the National Institutes of Technology and Science Education and Research (NITSER) Act, 2007. The institute offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Engineering and Architecture as well as Master's and Doctorate degrees in Science and Management in addition to various part-time courses.
