Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits candidates into various posts in different departments and ministries of the government offices in India. These posts are of various categories which depend on the qualification of the candidates. Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts are one of the posts offered by SSC in various departments.

Candidates who get recruited in these posts mainly carry forward the office work of the concerned department. They are recruited after the written test, typing test and personal interview round conducted by the concerned recruitment authority. These tests are vital and are responsible for making or breaking the chances for the candidates to get the posts in the government offices. These posts of LDC and DEO are posted at various offices to carry out documents related day to day office work.

Job Profile of Lower Division Clerk

LDC is associated with daily office works and required to take responsibility of the day to day operations in the office in smooth and efficient manner. They require performing simple tasks in their allotted offices and are asked to maintain the data, files and documents of the office in proper places. They are responsible for fetching information from the data pool and library of information for the concerned office or department at times. They are often asked to prepare the salary slips of the office staff working at various departments in the office.

They often are asked to send and receive important documents and files for their senior and fetch the same to them, according to their importance. They are briefed about the cliental of the company and are required to handle the phone calls of the clients or answer them over mail as well. The Lower Division Clerk also needs to maintain the register of the working office staff and mark the leave of them for the month.  The pay scale of the Lower Division Clerk in most government offices is Rs. 9200- 20200/- with Grade pay of minimum Rs. 1900/- per month. 

The candidates applying for this post must be between 18 to 27 years of age with 10+2 passed or Graduation Degree passed from any recognised university/institute. Most of the Lower Division Clerks in different offices other than the SSC are made on contractual basis, who after putting a good effort in their job, can become permanent in the office. The candidates selected through SSC in Lower Division Clerk posts could get promoted to Upper Division Clerk after getting some experience in the concerned department. They can further get promoted to Division Clerk or Head of Division Clerk posts as the time passes.

Job Profile of Data Entry Operator

Data Entry Operator is another such post which is in line with the Lower Division Clerk post. The candidates selected for the post need to be conversant with English or any of the regional language typing with adequate knowledge of computer and computer applications used in Offices. The DEO are important components in any of the government offices, who are responsible for keeping record of the company and its staffs on a daily basis.

They are responsible for the upgradation and creation of documents for the company. The DEOs are responsible for entering all the relevant and important data through the computer and feed it in the database of the company. Not only the details of the company, its products, clients and its sales report, the Data Entry Operators are responsible for maintaining the record of its employees and the in-house workers. These operators need to scan through all the pertinent information, figures and data of the company and compile them together to stack and make a proper database for the company for future reference.

How many hours to study to clear SSC CHSL exam?

They often need to write letters and do chores done by the Lower Division Clerks in their absence at the office. The pay scale is almost same as that of Lower Division Clerks.  The candidates should be 18 to 27 years of age to apply for the post. They should have passed 10+2 or Graduation examination and possess adequate speed in either English or any regional language typing.
