SSC CHSL Educational Qualification
In order to appear for the SSC CHSL Exam you need to qualified 12th standard from a recognized board or university. Additionally, if you wish to apply for Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts in the offices of Controller and Auditor General of India, you must have 12th passed with Mathematics as one of subjects.
SSC CHSL Age Limit
To apply for SSC CHSL Exam any candidate’s age must fall into the age group of 18-27 years. However, the reserved category candidates get some relaxation in the upper age limit according to the age relaxation rules laid down by the government.
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern
SSC CSHL Exam is being conducted in three layers, Tier -1, Tier -2 and Tier -3 where multiple choice questions are asked. The exam is being conducted in English as well as Hindi languages. There’s a negative marking as well where .50 marks deducted with each wrong answer. So, let’s know about SSC CSHL Exam pattern:-
Tier– 1 (Computer based Exam)
Tier– 1 of SSC CHSL is a Computer based exam in which questions related to verbal and non-verbal questions are asked from the range of sections – General English, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. Fifty questions are asked in each section and candidates need to answer in 60 minutes for the total exam.
Tier– 2 (Descriptive Exam)
Tier– 1 of SSC CHSL is a descriptive exam where writing skill of a candidate is being tested. In this exam, a candidate needs to write an essay of about 200-250 works and a letter o 150-200 words. Total of 20 minutes time and 100 marks maximum are allotted for this exam.
Tier– 3 (Skill Test)
Tier– 3 of SSC CHSL is a skill test. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of this only. The candidates for this test are being selected on the basis of their performance in Tier 1 and Tier 2. For Data Entry posts, typing test is being conducted where a candidate needs to qualify typing at 8000 key depressions per hour while for Data Entry post in the office of the Controller and Auditor General of India typing must be 15000 key depressions per hour. Fifteen minutes are allotted for this test.
SSC CHSL Selection Criteria
SSC CHSL is being conducted in three steps – Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. A candidate is selected for Tier 2 on the basis of performance in the Tier 1 exam while he/she is selected for Tier 3 on the basis of combined performance score in Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams.

• Lower Division Clerk / Junior Secretariat Assistant: Pay Band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), Grade Pay: Rs. 1900 (Pre-Revised)
• Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant: Pay Band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), Grade Pay: Rs. 2400 (Pre-Revised)
• Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), Grade-Pay: Rs.2400 (Pre-Revised)
• Data Entry Operator (DEO), Grade ‘A’: Pay-Band-1 (Rs.5200-20200), Grade Pay: Rs.2400 (Pre-Revised)
