India proved its mettle as a global power during the Commonwealth Games in 2010. The international event also helped augment foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in the country substantially. According to the Ministry of Tourism, FTAs in India during 2010 were 5.58 million with a growth rate of 9.3 per cent as compared to the FTAs of 5.11 million during 2009.
Statistics only prove to show the potential of India in the hospitality market with innumerable jobs being created. This has resulted in coming up of various courses on hospitality management. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Dwarka, New Delhi has launched a master of business administration programme in hospitality management.
The course will focus on all aspects of hospitality required in the field of hotels, resorts, food centres, events, casinos, and others. Generally, an MBA degree in hospitality management concentrates on all aspects like food management, operations, lodging operations, global tourism, sustainable tourism, food management, food science, food selection, food and beverage management, and other related sections.
Graduates with 50 per cent marks are eligible to apply for the course. Selection of students will be done through a common entrance test. The cost of the programme is Rs 75,000 per annum. After completion of the course graduates can expect a salary from anything between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per annum. A strong academic background can help graduates to manage a hotel and depute daily duties to staff.
A master's of business administration degree in hospitality proves to be the perfect path for students to go ahead with managing a business. The forms are available at 44 designates branches of only Indian Bank with 22 centres in Delhi and 22 outside Delhi.
