Senior Tripura cadre IAS officer, currently serving as a Secretary to the Government of Tripura, Sonal Goel was conferred with the prestigious ‘Empowerment & Development Woman Award’ at the International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations in Bangkok, Thailand.
The event, hosted by the United Peace Keepers Federal Council (UNPKFC) and co-hosted by the United Nations Associations of Coachella Valley, USA, saw changemakers like Dr. Aphinita Chaichana, Global President of UNPKFC, Karen Cantrell, President UNA-USA, Princess Isabelle Lafforgue, policymakers, diplomats, and Corporate Leaders like Mirinn Phromnock and Papachsorn Meepa come together to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Addressing the distinguished gathering, IAS Sonal Goel shared her insights on Gender Inclusion and Women’s Empowerment. She highlighted the crucial role of systemic interventions and policy frameworks by the Govt. of India under the leadership of PM Modi who changed the narrative from ‘women’s development to women-led development’ in fostering gender equity.
Taking to social media after receiving the award, she expressed her gratitude, stating, “This recognition is not mine alone—it belongs to every girls who dares to dream, every woman who refuses to give up, and every person who believes that equality is not an option, it is a necessity.”
A Global Stage for an Indian Trailblazer
The 2008 batch IAS officer Sonal Goel, has played a pivotal role in championing gender equality throughout her career. During her tenure in Haryana, where she served on deputation, she significantly contributed to the success of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, leading targeted interventions that improved the state’s sex ratio.
Furthering her commitment to women’s empowerment, she spearheaded the establishment of Tripura’s first all-women polling booth during her posting in Ambasa Sub-division of the Dhalai district back in the year 2010. This initiative not only promoted electoral participation among women but also set a national precedent for gender-inclusive governance.
Her impactful initiatives such as Nandini (in Tripura) and Mhaari Laado, Umang: Ek Pehel & Soch Pe Dastak (in Haryana) have been instrumental in bringing about behavioural shifts in society, particularly among men and young boys, fostering a culture of respect, equality, and progressive thought towards women.

The event witnessed thought-provoking discussions on breaking gender barriers, fostering leadership, and ensuring that gender inclusion remains central to sustainable global development. IAS officer Sonal Goel’s presence and contributions further strengthened India’s position in global dialogues on women’s rights, leadership, and inclusion.
In a powerful moment of national pride, she was seen waving the Indian flag while posing alongside global dignitaries, showcasing India’s commitment to empowering women on the world stage.
