The Punjab Aam Aadmi Party government launched a historic project of link road renovation and upgradation to accelerate rural development in Punjab. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state is upgrading 7,373 link roads (19,491.56 km) out of a total of 30,237 link roads in Punjab with a ₹4,150.42 crore investment. With the strengthening of rural transportation, the project envisages pumping in more money into the agricultural economy.
The most eye-catching feature of the project is that the whole road network was surveyed through AI-based tech of the latest generation. The digital and transparent process of the survey helped to check the exact condition of the ground, hence, the government saved ₹383.53 crore. This is the first time in Punjab when such sophisticated technology has been utilized for rural road upgradation.
To ensure construction quality, the state government held a “Road Infrastructure Development Meeting”, where clear instructions were given to all departments that there would be no compromise on the strength and durability of the roads.
The government has also paid special attention to road safety. Under a ₹91.83 crore safety project, warning signs, zebra crossings, speed limit boards, and signboards every 2 km are being installed near schools, public spaces, and busy areas.
Chief Minister Mann stated that “link roads are the backbone of the rural economy.”
These new and improved roads will give farmers and villagers faster and easier access to markets, mandis, and towns. The project will not only make travel smoother but will also give rural Punjab a new direction and lay a strong foundation for development in every village.
