Parliament’s Nod to Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Bill, 2012

The bill to establish a Central Agricultural University in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh has been finally sanctioned by the parliament after the Lok Sabha approved it on 20 February 2014.

The bill to establish a Central Agricultural University in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh has been finally sanctioned by the parliament after the Lok Sabha approved it on 20 February 2014.

The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Bill, 2012 proposed to set up an agricultural university whose jurisdiction will extend to the Bundelkhand region that encompasses 7 districts in Uttar Pradesh and 6 in Madhya Pradesh, with an aim to impart education in different branches of agriculture and allied sciences, besides undertaking research in agriculture. The programmes of extending education in Bundelkhand region is also on the cards while also to build linkages with national and international educational institutes.

The initial proposal is to build 2 colleges in Jhansi and later on 2 more colleges will be set up in Madhya Pradesh.

The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Bill, 2012 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on 22 May 2012 with an aim to add in a Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Jhansi catering to Bundelkhand region on both sides of the two states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for Rural sector Development.
