In an important move, the Punjab government has decided on 21 October 2013 to set up a regulatory body to keep a regular watch on private institutions in order to prevent them from charging excessive fee from students.
A government spokesman revealed that the new regulatory body will be set up to downsize and control the fee structure of unaided educational institutions across the state.
The decision has been taken during a cabinet meeting on the said date. The meeting was presided over by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The private institutions should not be allowed to charge fees from students illogically, said the Punjab and Haryana high court in a recent verdict.
