St Stephen’s College Alumni Foundation instituted C F Andrews Distinguished Alumnus Awards to honour the accomplishments done by the college alumni.
The awards would be conferred for the very first time on 15 December 2012, as a part of the annual reunion.
Amongst the awardees are the stalwarts, S Y Quraishi, former chief election commissioner; Kapil Sibal, Union minister for communication and IT; Salman Khurshid, foreign minister; Shashi Tharoor, minister of state, HRD; author Amitav Ghosh; former union minister Arun Shourie; Ashish Bahuguna, secretary, agriculture ministry; Ashwani Kumar, minister of law and justice; and Ajit Kumar Seth, cabinet secretary.
Apparently, many ‘stephanians’ called the whole move a gimmick to appease people in the government. Post the response of the alumni at the reunion lunch on 9 December 2012 , which was attended by some one hundred and thirty members, Thampu is all hopeful to organize a congregation of VVIPs for cocktails and dinner on the lawns of the College House.
