Staff Selection Commission Recruitment of Stenographers 2011

Staff Selection Commission invites application from eligible candidates for recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C' and Grade ‘D'. The commission will hold a Combined All India Open Examination for the recruitment.

Important Dates

  • Closing date for receipt of application: 12 August 2011 upto 5 pm
  • Closing date for receipt of application (candidates from far flung areas) : 19 August 2011
  • Date of Exam: 16 October 2011

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Applicant should have passed 12th Standard from a recognised board/ University.

Age limit: 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2011

Pay Scale

Grade ‘C'- PB-2 9300-34800 (Grade Pay- 4600)

Grade ‘D'- PB-1 5200-20200 (Grade Pay- 2400)

Application Fee: No application fee will be charged from Women candidates, SC, ST, Physically handicapped and Ex-servicemen and fee for general category candidate is Rs 100.

The application fee is payable through CRF Stamps for off-line application or on line payment through account with SBI in the case of online application.

Selection Procedure

The examination will consist of a written examination (objective type) and skill test in stenography.

General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 questions)


2 hours (10 am to 12 noon)

 B) Skill Test

The candidates will have to appear for the stenography test. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi which has to be transcribed on computer only.

Stenographer Grade ‘D'

  • a) 50 minutes (English) 100 w.p.m.
  • b) 65 minutes (Hindi) 10 w.p.m.

Stenographer Grade ‘D'

  • a) 40 minutes (English) 80 w.p.m.
  • b) 55 Minutes (Hindi) 80 w.p.m.

Mode of Selection

Candidates will be shortlisted for the skill test on the basis of their performance in the Written Examination. Candidates who qualify in the skill test will be recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of their performance in the Written Examination.
