NCPEDP interface between industry and government pays off; corporate giant Hero to train disabled for IT enabled services industry.
The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People has been making efforts to equip the disabled for higher positions in management and entrepreneurship. It is also increasing the interface between corporate houses, international agencies and the voluntary sector. Their expectations of widening the spectrum of high end businesses to include the disabled seem well within reason.
Corporate houses to do their bit
Hero Mindmine, part of the Rs 7,500 crore Hero group, has been the agency behind another such landmark programme in collaboration with NCPEDP. . The company, which provides training and resource solutions for I.T.-enabled and customer service industries, has launched a pilot programme to train persons with disabilities for the B.P.O. industry.
This measure is targeted towards enhancing employment opportunities for disabled people in IT-enabled services industries. It is expected to guarantee a safe and professional working environment, with easy transport from and to the workplace and fixed working hours. Such a position underscores the employee’s mental aptitude and focuses on enhancing the company’s efficiency and output by capitalising on the mental resource and eliminating the barriers of physicality.
The training will be conducted for almost a month and a 100% fee waiver will then be provided. Speech therapists are appointed to assess and train the individual for voice processes. Grammar and writing skills are worked upon before assessment; with both voice and non voice based training being provided to them.
In conclusion we can say that more and more of such programmes should be initiated by a joint effort of the public and the private sector in order to make the physically challenged sufficiently independent. Living an independent life demands that a person’s financial needs be satisfied, and this holds true especially for a person who faces the challenges of a physical disability.
Institutional Support for the Disabled
With IILM offering a 10 module management course for the disabled based on their class 12th and interview scores, while taking into account their particular physical challenge to suggest the courses which they can aptly translate into corporate positions, other such institutes are taking a step forward in the direction of democratizing higher education.
