A career in hotel industry is a good choice for students after class 12
The Indian hospitality industry is booming. According to the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2009 by the World Economic Forum, the Indian travel and tourism industry ranked fifth and is expected to be the second largest employer in the world by 2019. In pace with the growing demand for professionals in the hospitality industry, Oberoi Institute has started the Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP).
It is a three year in-house training programme. Amrita Bhalla, executive vice president, human resources, The Oberoi Group says, "During the course of the programme, a trainee is stationed at a hotel, learning various aspects of hotel operations, and is thus able to gain valuable experience in the attitudes, skills and knowledge involved."
As a part of the programme, Oberoi Group bears most of the cost of education on behalf of the trainee including accommodation, meals, fee for the bachelor degree, training material and basic medical benefits. In addition, trainees under the programme are also paid a monthly stipend comparable to industry rates.
