The Ministry of Earth Sciences through its autonomous institute, the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) has organized the Indian Arctic expeditions through the Indian Arctic Research Station Himadri.
Highlights

  • So far, the 15 successful multidisciplinary and multi-institutional Indian Scientific Expeditions to the Arctic have been carried out.
  • India has deployed a mooring IND-Arc in the inner Kongsfjorden.
  • Indian scientists have participated in several scientific cruises to the Arctic Ocean in collaboration with the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) and the Korean Polar Research Institute (KOPRI).
  • Indian scientists conducted two field works in the Canadian High Arctic region in 2023 and 2024.
  • India unveiled its Arctic policy document titled 'India and the Arctic: building a partnership for sustainable development’-on 17 March 2022.

3. Matsya-6000: India's Fourth-Generation Deep-Ocean Submersible

India has successfully devlepoed the "Matsya-6000"-4th Generation deep-ocean human scientific submersible. Under the Government of India’s Deep Ocean Mission initiatives, the Ministry of Earth Sciences has entrusted the National Institute of Ocean Technology with the ambitious task of designing the "Matsya-6000," as part of the Samudrayan Project.

Highlights:

  • This cutting-edge submersible is accommodated with three humans within its compact 2.1-meter diameter spherical hull.
  • It is equipped with various oceanographic sensors, underwater lighting and cameras outside the hull.

4. Aadi Mahotsav 2025

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Tribal Festival ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ in New Delhi. Aadi Mahotsav, a festival that aims to provide a glimpse into the rich and diverse traditional culture of the tribal communities of our country was organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • India saw a 7% increase in textile and apparel exports last year, and now ranks as the sixth-largest exporter of textiles and apparels in the world.
