However, if you are more comfortable with a type-writer, some government agencies allow you to take up the test on the traditional machine, as well. Font

Hindi Typing is far more complicated than the more commonly used English typing, both linguistically as well as grammatically. Key depressions include all alphanumeric keys from ‘A’ to ‘Z’; all numeric keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0; all special characters like !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), _, +, -, =, [, ], {, }. Even pressing of keys like Space Bar, Tab and Enter are also considered a keystroke / key depression. However, key depressions do not include function based keys like ‘Shift’, ‘Backspace’ and ‘Delete’ keys are not considered as a keystroke. If keystrokes are taken into consideration; 35 wpm corresponds to 10500 key depressions per hour and 30 wpm corresponds to 9000 key depressions per hour.

Types of Mistakes

Another important aspect in the Hindi Typing Test is regarding the accuracy of the content. Generally speaking, if the typing test is of qualifying nature, up to 5% mistakes are often ignored by the exam conducting authority and only speed is taken into consideration. However, if the typing test is an integral part of the overall exam pattern, then all mistakes are taken into account. In both cases, the mistakes are often classified as:

  • Half Mistakes: Wrong use of capital or small letters at the beginning of the sentence, mis-spelling or omission of a letter from a word.
  • Full-Mistakes: Omission of full word or a group of words, substitution of the original word with a wrong word or figure, addition of an additional word.
