Find the revised syllabus of English subject for UP Board Class 12 academic session 2018-2019.

Since last year students of class 12th UP Board were supposed to take two written exam of English subject where each paper comprising of 50 marks, but now due to syllabus change, students of UP Board class 12 have to give only one written exam comprising of 100 marks with the time duration of 3 hours

Through the syllabus student can easily understand about the new course structure, like: description of the course, units, sections etc. So, start preparing your study plan with the help of this revised syllabus for your new session.

The key contents of the syllabus: UP Board Class 12th English paper:

1. Name of the Units and their Weightage in Board Exam.

2. Details of topics and sub-topics to be covered in each unit.

The complete revised syllabus is as follows:

UP Board Syllabus for Class 12 English

उत्तर प्रदेश माध्यमिक शिक्षा परिषद्, इलाहाबाद

पाठ्यक्रम तथा पाठ्य–पुस्तकें

इस विषय में 100 अंकों का एक प्रश्न – पत्र तीन घण्टे का होगा | न्यूनतम उत्त्रिनांक 33.

NOTE :

1 . The whole question paper is divided into two sections- Section A and Section B.

2. Section A will contain of Prose, Poetry, Short Stories and the play The Merchant of Venice.

3. Section B will contain General English.

Section A (50 Marks)

1. Explanation with reference to the context (One passage from Prose and one stanza from poetry) – 8 + 8 = 16 marks.

2. One short answer type question from prose (not to exceed 30 words) - 4 marks.

3. Vocabulary (based on Prose text) - 4 marks.

4. Central Idea of any one poem. - 6 marks.

5. One long answer type question from The Merchant of Venice (Not to exceed 75 words) - 8 marks.

6. Two short answer type questions from Short Stories (Not to exceed 30 words) – 4 + 4 = 8 marks.

7. Figures of Speech. (a) Define any one of the following figures of speech with examples. 2 + 2 = 4 marks (Similie, Metaphor, Personification, A postrophe, Oxymoron, Onomatopoeia, Hyperbole)

Section B (50 Marks)

8. Grammar:

(a) Direct and Indirect Narration - 2 marks. (Out of two do any one)

(b) Synthesis - 2 marks. (Out of two do any one)

(c) Transformation - 2 marks. (Out of two do any one)

(d) Syntax (Correction of sentences) – 1 + 1 = 2 marks. (Out of four do any two)

9. Vocabulary: (a) Synonyms – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.

(b) Antonyms – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.

(c) Homophones – 1 + 1 = 2 Marks.

(d) One-word substitution – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.

(e) Idioms and phrases – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks

10. Translation: Hindi to English - 10 Marks.

11. Essay Writing - 12 marks.

12. Unseen Passage - 6 marks.

नोट – जनसंख्या, पर्यावरण, स्वास्थ्य शिक्षा तथा ट्राफिक रूल्स की जानकारी हेतु निबंध के रूप में प्रश्न पूछे जायेंगे|

अंग्रेजी विषय के लिये निम्नांकित पाठ्य-वस्तु (माध्यमिक शिक्षा परिषद द्वारा निर्धारित अंश) का अध्ययन करना होगा-

इसके अंक विभाजन निम्नवत् होंगे-
