As the UPSC conducted the preliminary stage of civil services exam 2011 on June 12, all the apprehensions about the CSAT, which replaced the optional paper this year, came to an end. Aspirants say the second paper was comparatively easy and as was expected, evaluated the aptitude of the candidates. There were eight situational questions that put the candidate in a tight spot as an officer and appropriate answers out of the given options were expected from the examinees.
“The UPSC had changed the pattern of exam this year. General Studies Paper II was quite easy and simple for me as I have been a student of English Literature. I hope to clear the exam and will start preparing for the Mains next week,” says Rahila Manzoor who took the prestigious exam at the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tughlakabad of Delhi.
This year the two papers were General Studies I and II.
GS Paper I consisted of 100 questions mostly from Science, Geography, Economics and Current Affairs. There were also a few questions of History.
GS Paper II was mostly based on Comprehension, English and reasoning. There were also 8 situational questions for which there was no negative marking, of the total 80 questions asked.
The Mains exam for the successful candidates will start in October this year.
