First Border haat to be opened in Tripura in November 2014

The first border haat facility on zero line on the Indo-Bangla international border at Srinagar in South Tripura district will be inaugurated in November 2014.

The first border haat (market) facility on zero line on the Indo-Bangla international border in Tripura will be opened in November 2014. This was announced by Union Minister of Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman and her Bangladesh counterpart Tofil Ahmed at Srinagar in south Tripura in October 2014.

This hatt on the Srinagar-Ramgarh border is second in North-East after Meghalaya which will help boost bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh.


Selected commodities from both countries would be traded during, the border hatt period. As per notification, people residing within a distance of 5 km from the border are entitled to do business at the haat. Business in haat would take place once in a week initially.

It is anticipated that the haat would cater the livelihood option to more than thousand of marginal income families and small traders of both the countries. It would be beneficial for people of the region as no tax would be imposed on the items to be sold in the haat and currencies of both the countries will be allowed.
