1. (a) 2016

Panama Papers leak came in news on April 3, 2016 after a German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung published a report on the same. Panama Papers case is a massive leak of 11.5 million documents from a Panamanian law firm - Mossack Fonseca- that reveal how its clients were able to launder money, dodge sanctions and avoid tax. 

2. (a) Nagaland

The Nagaland Assembly on December 20, 2021, unanimously passed a resolution demanding the repeal of AFSPA in Nagaland. The resolution for the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act was adopted during a special session that was held in aftermath of the botched security ambush that claimed the lives of 14 civilians earlier in December 2021. Massive protests have been held in the Capital, Kohima, with the Nagaland cabinet also recommending the repeal of the law.

3. (a) Delhi

Delhi will get its first-ever Teachers University, as Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal to establish the university on December 21, 2021. The Chief Minister said that the University will be dedicated to preparing excellent quality Teachers across different school stages.

4. (c) Karnataka

Karnataka legislative assembly passed the controversial anti-conversion bill on December 23, 2021 amid long debates. The bill seeks to curb illegal religious conversions.

5. (d) Belgium 

Belgium has agreed in principle on December 23, 2021, to close all its nuclear power plants by the year 2025. However, the country has left open the possibility of extending the life of two reactors if it will not be able to otherwise ensure the energy supply.

6. (a) Chile

Gabriel Boric, leftist lawmaker and former student activist has won Chile's Presidential Elections 2021. He beat right-wing candidate Jose Antonio Kast in Chile's presidential runoff with 56 percent votes on December 19, 2021, becoming Chile's youngest President ever. 

7. (a) Puneet Goenka 

Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited (SPNI) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL) announced on December 21, 2021 that they have signed definitive merger agreements to combine their linear networks, digital assets, production operations and program libraries. Puneet Goenka will continue to remain as the MD and CEO of the merged new entity for a period of five years as part of the deal. 

8. (a) India

Indian men's hockey team beat Pakistan to win the bronze medal at the Asian Champions Trophy on December 22, 2021. The neck-to-neck contest ended with Manpreet Singh-led India beating arch-rivals 4-3 to secure third place in the tournament. 

9. (d) Marnus Labuschagne

Australia's Marnus Labuschagne has become the new world no.1 batsman in ICC Men's Test Batsmen Rankings 2021, pushing England's Joe Root to the second spot. This is the first time that Labuschagne has taken up the top rank. He was earlier ranked at second place. 

10. (a) Kidambi Srikanth

Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian male shuttler to win silver at the BWF World Championships on December 19, 2021. He settled for the silver after losing to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in straight sets of 21-15, 22-20. 

11. (a) December 20th

International Human Solidarity Day is observed annually on December 20th to celebrate unity and diversity and raise public awareness regarding the importance of solidarity. The day seeks to remind governments to respect their commitments to international agreements and encourage debate on ways to promote solidarity for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals including poverty eradication.

12. (b) December 25th

Good Governance Day is celebrated on December 25th to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Good Governance Day was established by the PM Modi-led government in 2014 to honor Prime Minister Vajpayee. The centre has decreed the Good Governance Day to be a working day for the government.
