1. (a) Qatar
Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sherida al-Kaabi on December 3, 2018 announced that the country will withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in January 2019. This decision to quit OPEC was confirmed by Qatar Petroleum, the state oil company.
2. (a) Gautam Gambhir
After over 15 years of successful career in Indian cricket, Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir on December 4, 2018 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Gautam Gambhir was one of the most complete batsmen who opened well in all three forms of the game – Test matches, ODIs and T20s.
3. (a) Communication satellite
India’s heaviest and most-advanced communication satellite GSAT-11, also called the "Big Bird", was successfully launched into space on December 5, 2018 from the Spaceport in French Guiana, South America. The satellite will help provide satellite-based internet to remote places where cable-based internet cannot reach.
4. (d) Myanmar Leader Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel peace laureate & Myanmar leader, was stripped of Freedom of Paris award over her failure to speak out against a crackdown on Myanmar's Rohingya minority. The move follows similar decisions by Glasgow, Edinburgh and Oxford.

India was handed the Chairmanship of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) by the European Union during the KPCS Plenary 2018, which was held in Brussels, Belgium, from November 12-16, 2018. India will take over the role from January 1, 2019.

Veteran leftist leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has been sworn in as the 58th President of Mexico. Obrador won a landslide victory in the July 1 Presidential Elections, the biggest win for any president and the first for a leftist since Mexico transitioned to multi-party democracy in 2000.
7. (c) Odisha
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently announced a new initiative ‘PEETHA’ to create awareness about various government schemes and improve transparency. It also aims at improving transparency in the distribution of individual and social benefits. The acronym ‘PEETHA’ stands for Peoples Empowerment Enabling Transparency and Accountability.
8. (a) Qatar
Qatar’s pure strength is the production of Gas. Qatar is the world's biggest supplier of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), producing almost 30 percent of the world total. Qatar also shares the world's largest known natural gas field, the ‘North Field’ with Iran.
9. (c) Poland
The 24th meeting of Conference of Parties (COP24) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) began on December 3, 2018 at Katowice, Poland.
10. (a) Luka Modric
Croatian midfielder and Captain Luka Modric has won the 2018 Ballon d'Or. The 33-year old has become the first player other than Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo or Argentina’s Lionel Messi to claim the award in more than a decade. This year, Ronaldo came second behind Modric, while Messi finished fifth.
11. (c) Nagaland
Nagaland has become the first amongst the North-Eastern States and the second state overall in India to launch the single emergency number ‘112’ under ERSS. The state has integrated the emergency system with Tourist Police and Highway patrol and will expand to interior districts subsequently.
12. (b) Abhinav Bindra
India’s Olympic and world champion shooter Abhinav Bindra was bestowed with the prestigious ISSF's highest shooting honour ‘Blue Cross’ at the General Assembly in Munich for his outstanding services as the chairman of the International Shooting Sport Federation’s Athletes Committee.
