The Newly Elected Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented Delhi’s Rs 1 Lakh Crore Budget on Tuesday, Mar 25, 2025 for the year 2025-26. This budget includes ten priority sectors, electricity, roads, water, and connectivity. 

According to Rekha Gupta, this budget is a ‘historic budget’ as the government promises efficiency and transparency, evolving from mismanagement and corruption since the past decade. The capital budget has also noticed a major boost, doubling to 28,000 cr to accelerate infrastructure projects.

As compared to the previous year’s budget allocation and outline, this year’s budget has observed an increase of 31.5 percent which aims to resolve important development challenges in Delhi. 

Key Highlights from Delhi Budget 2025:

  • Transport: ₹1,000 crore set aside to improve connectivity between Delhi and NCR.
  • Women’s Welfare: ₹5,100 crore allocated to provide ₹2,500 per month to eligible women.
  • Healthcare: ₹2,144 crore earmarked for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to improve medical services.
  • Clean Water & Sanitation: ₹9,000 crore allocated to enhance drinking water and sanitation facilities.
  • Business & Investment: A "Traders' Welfare Board" will be set up, and a Global Investment Summit will be held every two years to attract investors.
  • Sewage System: ₹500 crore for upgrading sewage treatment plants and ₹250 crore to replace old sewer lines.
  • Education: New "CM Shri Schools" to be opened with ₹100 crore allocated.
  • Student Support: ₹750 crore allocated to provide free laptops to 1,200 students passing Class X.
  • Entertainment: ₹30 crore set aside for an International Film Festival in Delhi.
  • Animal Welfare: ₹40 crore allocated for modern cow shelters in Ghummanhera.
