Google Brings Image Generating and Fact Checking Capabilities to Bard: Here is How to Use the New Features

Get ready for a more creative and factual Bard! Google recently announced exciting updates to its conversational AI, Bard, expanding its capabilities in two key areas: image generation and fact-checking. Last year, Google brought Gemini Pro to Bard’s English version, and now the company has made it available in 40 languages. 

The Google Keyword blog mentions: “Last December, we brought Gemini Pro into Bard in English, giving Bard more advanced understanding, reasoning, summarizing and coding abilities. Today Gemini Pro in Bard will be available in over 40 languages and more than 230 countries and territories, so more people can collaborate with this faster, more capable version of Bard.”

Bringing Text to Life: Introducing Image Generation

Previously limited to text-based communication, Bard can now conjure up captivating images based on your descriptions. Simply enter a few words, and Bard will translate your imagination into a visual reality. This opens up a new world of possibilities for creative exploration, brainstorming, and communication. Imagine describing a fantastical landscape, a historical scene, or even a personal dream and seeing it come to life on your screen.

Google’s new image-generating feature is powered by their Imagen 2 model and it can design images rapidly maintaining the quality. Google in its blog states: “For an extra creative boost, you can now generate images in Bard in English in most countries around the world, at no cost. This new capability is powered by our updated Imagen 2 model, which is designed to balance quality and speed, delivering high-quality, photorealistic outputs. Just type in a description — like “create an image of a dog riding a surfboard” — and Bard will generate custom, wide-ranging visuals to help bring your idea to life.”

The company has taken the online vulnerabilities into consideration as well and it will be implemented on Bard’s image generating product as well. The company states: “Consistent with our AI Principles, image generation was designed with responsibility in mind. For instance, to ensure there’s a clear distinction between visuals created with Bard and original human artwork, Bard uses SynthID to embed digitally identifiable watermarks into the pixels of generated images.” 

Doubling Down on Accuracy: Enhanced Fact-Checking

Trustworthiness is paramount when it comes to AI, and Google is taking steps to ensure Bard delivers reliable information. The new "Double-check" feature empowers you to easily verify Bard's responses against Google Search results. This transparency allows you to judge the accuracy of the information presented and make informed decisions. Additionally, Bard has been trained on a vast dataset of factual information, improving its ability to distinguish truth from fiction.

Google mentions: “Since we know people want the ability to corroborate Bard’s responses, we’re also expanding our double-check feature, which is already used by millions of people in English, to more than 40 languages. When you click on the “G” icon, Bard will evaluate whether there is content across the web to substantiate its response. If it can be evaluated, you can click the highlighted phrases and learn more about supporting or contradicting information found by Search.”
